Building custom trumpets with Christian Scott & Teus Nobel at Adams Brass (video)

Sometimes the stars align an you get a truly once in a lifetime opportunity thrown in your lap. This was one of those days. I met Christian in 2013 at the Edison gala, where he won Best international jazz artist 2013. We had a lot of fun and to my own amazement Christian told me his radical trumpet design are actually made in The Netherlands, just about a two hour drive from my own home actually! I was intrigued since I always love to promote great craftsman, and we decided it might be fun to set up a meet with all of us once he came back to the Netherlands. As the date approached to visit the Adams Brass workshop my good friend Teus Nobel ended up designing a custom trumpet just a few weeks before Scott was due to visit. The chance to get two of the most promising young voices on the jazz trumpet in one room, talking about there personal trumpet designs, inside of the grandmaster craftsman’s workshop itself, was something I absolutely couldn’t pass up. So we all did some karaté in our agenda’s and in the end we succeeded in getting everybody to the Adams workshop at the same time.

The resulting episode of “the Hat” we made for Zero2jazz.com will show you everything you need should you ever want to design a custom Adams instrument yourself. Or if you’re just curious about the gear of these particular two cat’s. You will enjoy this one very much!
